NOLA teachers, students, and makers come together to hack math class
Charter and independent school teachers combined forces with St. Martin's students and makers from across New Orleans to participate in the first ever "Keep Calm/Hack Math" hackathon to re-imagine math class.
The event—hosted by #HWYTYYS (How Would You Teach Your Younger Self), The Idea Lab, and 4.0 Schools—challenged educators to bring in traditional math problems and then create (in a mere two-hours) a completely new and engaging problem around the math concepts they address. Teachers pitched their problems, and teams quickly formed to brainstorm, storyboard, film, and edit videos of the new problems. It was a fast-paced two hours, filled with fun, food, and math!
