In October, US History teacher Charles Rivet read an interesting article that described how 14 Caribbean countries had filed lawsuits against the European countries that colonized them, seeking reparations for slavery. He decided to put his sophomores to the test. He challenged them to research the roles of both the colonized and colonizers and, in the end, issue complex recommendations as to how those Caribbean nations might fairly be compensated by the European nations.
