Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge
Back in October, Google for Entrepreneurs, The Brees Dream Foundation, and The Idea Village announced the 4th annual Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge, an after-school entrepreneurship program for local high school students and a signature event of The Idea Village’s annual New Orleans Entrepreneur Week.
Eight local schools were chosen for this year's challenge, including St. Martin's. The team began work right away, interviewing students, teachers, and administrators to identify a need in the community that the team could solve using technology. This year's challenge asks local schools to identify a problem in their community and use some sort of technology to help solve that problem. Our dedicated team of six young men met every Thursday at 7 a.m. to share the work they've accomplished throughout the week. In addition to working with mentors from both The Idea Village and Google, we also use Google Hangout to collaborate outside of school hours.

The team presented their problem as well as their solution--a mobile website for students--at the culminating pitch event during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. While the team did not walk about with the first place prize of $10,000 for their school, they did bring home $2500 towards the implementation of their idea at St. Martin's. The team is regrouping and will look to launch the mobile website next year.
