AP Biology Blends Science And Business To Create A New Smoothie
When Upper School science teacher Joe Vaccaro crafted his semester-long assignment for his AP biology students, he worked with The Idea Lab to take the assignment beyond the theoretical and challenged two teams of students to investigate problems that the current smoothie world has yet to address. The result?
- One team has taken on the issue of inflammation of the joints using ginger as a main ingredient creating Ginger Snap, while the other tackled easing women's pain and discomfort brought on by PMS through their secret recipe called Crampberry.
- The teams researched key ingredients and then set to work prototyping. They tried various combinations of ingredients, hosted a multitude of taste tests by the St. Martin's student body (and even all their teachers at a faculty meeting as shown in this photo), listened to and recorded the feedback and returned to their kitchens to try, try again.
